COMMISSIONS NEW
Art is my full time job and combined with illustration and graphic arts, it always has been which means I work to deadlines, specific customer needs and requirements with both budgets and timescales. It also means that my work is immensely varied so whatever you are looking for, just ask.
How much will it be for a painting?
Understandably, this is the first question I am asked is and it is impossible to answer.
Think about what you would like to have and how much you want to spend. Pricing is a combination of material costs and the time needed to do the work – like any other business really – but the difficulty with estimating artwork is that a painting of “a field with a few clouds in the sky” is a totally different job to a railway scene with four trains, lots of track and buildings with crowds of people!
So I need to understand what your thoughts are. I can produce a wonderful gift for you to give for just £65 but, it will not be a three-foot oil painting you may have wanted to talk about.
Sourcing information
The important thing is reference. The more you can give me the easier the job – though I do have an extensive library. Transport artists are not usually figure or portrait painters but as my training and background is in commercial art, I specialise in all types of commissions and can even “put you in the picture”. It gives you an exciting opportunity to recreate a fine art painting of your own special memories and special people, much like you see in historical stately homes.
What medium
If you are uncertain whether to choose oil, acrylic or water colour, pastel or charcoal, I will help you with that decision – in many cases it is dictated by your budget so while speaking to me is not necessarily the first step, talking about the possibilities is enjoyable and you will feel that much more confident about the process.
Although I will need a deposit, I have an absolute guarantee that you only take the picture when you are totally happy with the result and by working together with sketches and being able to view the progress, problems are usually avoided.
Delivery
Watercolours or even oil on canvas if absolutely necessary (once properly dry) can be rolled and shipped in a tube; you can then arrange your own re-stretching and framing. If you prefer, you can of course collect your painting from my studio. Competed paintings can be securely boxed for carriage but, understandably, there will be a cost for the materials and carriers (unfortunately no carrier or postal service will insure artwork and antiques of any type so good packing is essential). In the UK mainland, depending on distance we may be able to deliver your art to you otherwise we will ship according to the method and cost agreed.Art is my full time job and combined with illustration and graphic arts, it always has been which means I work to deadlines, specific customer needs and requirements with both budgets and timescales.
